Movie Poster competition

I entered local movie poster competition that held by MuviSpot, and ended at 4th place. There a lot of things dissapointing during this competition but whatever the result is, I'm pretty glad for the result especially Slumdog Millionaire version.

I decided to choose Slumdog Millionaire because i found the official poster is a bit dissapointing, they didn't even put the main cast name on it, how shameful...

I put the chair as main object because the theme on this movie even romance is the game called Who want to be Millionaire, the game that decided of main character ending. I like how this movie actually about romance but they made it didn't look like your usual romance flick, and I love everything about it, not to mention the cast and the place take in India, which is why i used Indian look for this poster, the style or pattern.

And the second poster didn't win anything, but because I made it when I really in love with the movie, I just posted here too...

God, I'm so in love with the movie. Its heavy movie, a lot of dialogues and some disturbing idea but interesting especially we get to know the love story between sentient Operating System and human, which ironically I think this can happen in future.

I used White Carnation for the symbolic "Pure Love" because its the thing that I can see between the main character and one OS called "Samantha", the computer things made me decide to pixelate the flower, and made the title "Her" using random binary code, to add "tech feel" to this poster.

I just like simple poster but tell everything, like one of my favorite movie poster remake Olly Moss.

Another Children Illustration book project

There another book where I took part as Illustrator is been released, this illustration actually done last year and have a chance to published this year.
The book title is "I Love Books"

As you can see from the title, its all about how to love read and start reading a book or even create a book which I think is a good think to built the need to read good books start from earlier ages because books give you a lot of knowledge and information.

My part called "Kado Persahabatan" (Friendship Present).

I'm really glad to get this opportunity to try different panel, plus I love the theme (yes, I also a bookworm).

This book already can find in local bookstore (Gramedia)and priced around Rp.120000 for 164 pages full color.

Popcon 2013 Art

Actually i want to talk about my children books that already published but i'll save it later for other entry since i want to talk a bit about art that i've done for Popcon Asia 2013.

What is Popcon Asia 2013, its convention that held in Indonesia for Game, Comic, Art and other creative things enthusiast. I've been busy for some months doing another art for upcoming children books and i didn't have an idea (okay i got one, a book but i don't have time for made it) and time to doing some new stuff for Popcon, so i only did button/pins for the event.

I won't post Doctor Who one because its old pics of mine.

I have love and hate relationship with Popcon, if compared with STGCC (Singapore Toys Game and Comic Convention), since they are similiar event, i still prefer STGCC.

This is my first time attending Popcon Asia as exhibitor (i attended 2012 one as participant only), and yet when first day, i already lost 2 posters that i put on my booth's wall.

 

TARDIS poster is old poster that i made during STGCC 2010 and i made Joffrey poster only for jokes, special for Popcon Asia 2013 (sale only by request), but its gone after the day i put them on my booth's wall...

I don't know who steal it or for what purpose, you don't have permission to take it!

Now you understand the first thing i hate about Popcon Asia 2013 among other hate, its Indonesian people behavior.....

Not only that, i found several people still ask for discount for pins that i sell when i already gave a cheap price, this is how they appreciate art.

And for other hate is personal reason i cannot write here ^^

And for love? i meet new friends, great and humble artist and i'm understand the market for Indonesian people LOL also thank you for people who came to our booth and bought something, that really precious for us.

Will i joined Popcon Asia 2014? perhaps, we'll see.

Banner and Game Play Post

I need to reminded myself that i should posted here regularly, smack that lazyness!
Put here two of my artworks:

This artwork is used for Bening Lara head banner, although i kinda dissapointed that the webdesigner didn't put the banner moving so the art its kinda cut out, plus they didn't let me re-design the website so it will fit to picture. The picture is actually Bhavacharaka/Bhavacakra, which is confused me at first about the request since Bhavacharaka is usually drawn vertically not landscape banner style so the viewer can see the whole circle, so its kinda confusing first how to made it look like banner without cut the important part, so i just made it look like birth-to-die-and-then-nirvana like from left to right.

Test image for game concept background, i created new landscape and cloud but the sea is just crop from my previous artwork, if this is get green light and into production i will re-draw the sea. Until now i didn't hear anymore news from the requested, kinda dissapointed since i like this concept very much.

Hopefully one day...

AtAmerica T-shirt design competition

This is artwork that i've done for AtAmerica t-shirt design competition, didn't won but i kinda like it. I forgot the theme of the competition but i guess is about relationship between America and Indonesia. I choose coffee for base because both American and Indonesian have same addiction of coffee, and both of them also have their own specialized coffee. The fume from the coffee made a handgrip picture from both hands. Left one is America, right one is Indonesia.

Lets talk about MYTH

I think this is the second time i will talk about my first selfpublished postcard book, MYTH, but now i want to talk few about reason and discuss about this book interior.

Reason why i made this postcard book? Basically its because thought Indonesia have a lot of interesting mythical creature, not much people know them, both International people or Indonesian people themself. You knew about the famous Pegasus, Griffon, Kraken, Orochi, etc, but i bet you don't know much about Lembuswana, Ebu Gogo or Singa.
To introduce this to International people, i made this postcard book and selling at Singapore convention, and then by order, i started to accepting local order.
First time, i'm planned to made this into book, but i hesitated and wondering how well this book will be accepted outside Indonesian market, that why i converted this to postcard book with more simple content for trial and error.
But someday, i hope i can published a book with more pages about Indonesian Mythical Creature.

The Cover

I like red, and i think red colour is pretty outstanding colour and people will easily notice this colour from far.
In first edition (right), i used Hanacaraka, you can read it as "Dongeng", Indonesian word that have same meaning as Myth. But to be truth i don't ask person who fluent to Hanacaraka to do beta of my writing since i only used digital font in photoshop.
So to avoid a confusion if someday my postcard book reached people who understand Hanacaraka better, i changed Hanacaraka letter to "Postcard book" (left).

Left is index page, you can see the content of this postcard book, there will be 7 creatures included in this book.

As you can see, left side is the back cover of the postcard, its include information of each creature beside postcard design. Right side is other front cover, its not the front cover of left picture (left side has information about Singa, while right picture show Nyi Roro Kidul art).

And the last, bonus section.
Always included a gift for buyer, in first printing that i sold at Singapore, i included mini pin that have fish bone printed on it.
I planned to do different thing for second print, so i made a bookmark. Its also have fish's bone shape like the pin :)


Why fish? its my trademark now :D

FlooD! Kopi Keliling Online Exhibition 2012

Made this art for KopiKeliling Online Exhibition 2012.

*sigh* I made this art hurried, because i mistaken the deadline date 22 January as 21 January, how silly....
I like this concept, but i'm not that satisfied... there something i can add more in this picture, like house's details and adding more vehicle and more. I hope i can add it in next drawing...
At least i tried, choose or not choosen that was later matter.
My concept is about "Flood that always happen in every 5 years at my city (Jakarta)", that was the thing that made me worried in 2012.

Keris Mpu Gandring

Made this for my friend's book about tale of Ken Arok and Ken Dedes, the mythical Keris that made by Mpu Gandring, never complete.
My friend book theme is hope, but i'm not really dig a hope about Arok and Dedes because i think both of them is not have romantic relationship at all. So i made this darker version of hope, greed.

Paint paint paint

Horse that i've done for Majapahit online, this is actually appears on Majapahit Online trailer maybe you not notice it since its only appears for 10 seconds LOL.
I did draw several horses, but black one is my favorite.

This is the full screen of my digital painting that included those horses XD, a bit dark because the scene is in the night.

Pandawa

I remember that this is my first project that involved Wayang characters. Its shame i know but i really never know well any wayang characters or their background story, yes i know Arjuna, yes i know Gatotkaca, yes i know Semar, Petruk and Gareng (the last two names i know from Petruk-Gareng Indonesia comic, an adult comic done by Tatang S), but i don't know who their father? who their mother? etc so i really glad taken this project that made me in love with Wayang stories and their characters.

I choosed Pandawa because they are pretty popular and its not too hard to search in-depth encyclopedia about them in internet. I know people will gave me that 'look' because i took popular subject, but i don't care since its really ironic for such popular figures i didn't know anything about them.


I made this on Desain Komikasi Visual Subject, where i choose some subject and put them to many media.
I choose to made tote bag, t-shirt, bookmarks, calendar, cellphone voucher, postcards, pins/buttons, file holder, and custome brochure.

If you opened the brochure, you can find profile of each Pandawa's characters. I kinda like this design though its a bit hard to opening it.

Highlight on Poscards set

Each postcards contains Pandawa's characters that explain the meaning of their simbolic personalities such as:

Yudhistira: SUSETYO Seriously leading the others four.
Bima : SANTOSA Strongly and determinedly protecting Pandawa.
Arjuna : BENER who was alert to keep the truth
Nakula : PINTER clever and skillful. No goal could be reached without a skill.
Sadewa : SUSILA & TATAKRAMA accomplished everything with the principle at high morality.

And i forgot to mention about the calendar. Its mini calendar consist 4 monthly means only have 3 pictures in it, each picture have 4 months in it.
Every pictures i named "Sangkan, Paraning, Dumadi"
What is Sangkan Paraning Dumadi? There many ways to explain this but shorty its about birth of human, the meaning of their life and existence towards death or nothingness and complete peacefullness.
Its kinda difficult subject anyway hahahaha, but i think its a bit like Buddhism? complete the circle of life and reach nirvana.

Aaaanyway, i got many new experience and study because of this, i hope someday i got another project about Wayang again :)

Myth and else...

Its already a month since last posting. I think i should posting often in here.
BTW i never thought that my book MYTH that i sold at STGCC will be sold out. MYTH actually a book about Indonesian Mythical Creature.



Lets say that i made this book for overseas buyer, i want to introduce Indonesian Mythical Creature that people seems don't know. They already know Japan, Europe, and other Asian mythologies creature but only few know about Indonesian one.
But it seems the one who interested more about this are Indonesian people themself.



Re-printed this book for second time. I amazed....Good God, thank you very much
