I almost forgot to post this, this is event that i failed to attend since the location is pretty far...which is sad since one of my artwork is there...

Popcon 2013 Art

Actually i want to talk about my children books that already published but i'll save it later for other entry since i want to talk a bit about art that i've done for Popcon Asia 2013.

What is Popcon Asia 2013, its convention that held in Indonesia for Game, Comic, Art and other creative things enthusiast. I've been busy for some months doing another art for upcoming children books and i didn't have an idea (okay i got one, a book but i don't have time for made it) and time to doing some new stuff for Popcon, so i only did button/pins for the event.

I won't post Doctor Who one because its old pics of mine.

I have love and hate relationship with Popcon, if compared with STGCC (Singapore Toys Game and Comic Convention), since they are similiar event, i still prefer STGCC.

This is my first time attending Popcon Asia as exhibitor (i attended 2012 one as participant only), and yet when first day, i already lost 2 posters that i put on my booth's wall.

 

TARDIS poster is old poster that i made during STGCC 2010 and i made Joffrey poster only for jokes, special for Popcon Asia 2013 (sale only by request), but its gone after the day i put them on my booth's wall...

I don't know who steal it or for what purpose, you don't have permission to take it!

Now you understand the first thing i hate about Popcon Asia 2013 among other hate, its Indonesian people behavior.....

Not only that, i found several people still ask for discount for pins that i sell when i already gave a cheap price, this is how they appreciate art.

And for other hate is personal reason i cannot write here ^^

And for love? i meet new friends, great and humble artist and i'm understand the market for Indonesian people LOL also thank you for people who came to our booth and bought something, that really precious for us.

Will i joined Popcon Asia 2014? perhaps, we'll see.

Kettu and Kissa: Belated Wedding Gift for a friend

I just realized the best thing that you can give for one of your bestfriend's wedding is handmade stuff. Almost some months i'm annoyed because i don't know what should i gave to my friend for her wedding gift especially when the person that you want to give are not "you usual normal person" LOL she and her husband are pretty eccentric, so i don't want to give them usual gift with cheesy words.
Its kinda struck with me when she said "why you not made something with your drawing?"
Damn right.....i can draw, i'm illustrator and why that stuff never across in my mind. So in one month rushed, i made a custom apron (because i know both of them are like to cook) plus with napkin.

Writing are in Finnish, i don't really know Finnish language except "Kiitos" LOL, i search some cook jokes in internet and ask my friend's husband to translate it to Finnish (without knowing for what), dunno if they realized it or not, this writing suppose to be a little bit "naughty" but i tried less cheesy XD.

They are mascot of my friend and her husband, she is purple cat and he is snow fox.

And this one is pattern that i did for napkins, i did some mistake >< but i kinda like when its already printed in fabric <3 (pardon poor camera photoshoot)

Not bad i think, gosh i love to made product design XD, hopefully i can made it more in the future :)

And i'm glad that she and her husband like what i did for them :3

Illustration that i draw for free postcard at STGCC 2012, I kinda satisfied with the girls but not really when i think actually i can put more female with different body size and skin.
And the left one, i kinda don't like the result but i like the words in it, i founded it on Tumblr and i just hope people who get this postcard will do what written in it.
I printed two other pictures as postcard but i think i already put the images on earlier entry, its Mr.Owl and The Shoes Club.

Book Cover and other things

Book cover for Nuansa Cendekia, i can't wait to get it printed ^^ Also remember about Wacom Speed competition? i did win 3rd place. That was miracle... And for Singapore Toys, Games and Comic Convention 2012, i think i will make some book crossover between fairy tale and robot steampunk (no, the human didn't wore any steampunk related dress). I hope i can make this project ASAP

Lets talk about MYTH

I think this is the second time i will talk about my first selfpublished postcard book, MYTH, but now i want to talk few about reason and discuss about this book interior.

Reason why i made this postcard book? Basically its because thought Indonesia have a lot of interesting mythical creature, not much people know them, both International people or Indonesian people themself. You knew about the famous Pegasus, Griffon, Kraken, Orochi, etc, but i bet you don't know much about Lembuswana, Ebu Gogo or Singa.
To introduce this to International people, i made this postcard book and selling at Singapore convention, and then by order, i started to accepting local order.
First time, i'm planned to made this into book, but i hesitated and wondering how well this book will be accepted outside Indonesian market, that why i converted this to postcard book with more simple content for trial and error.
But someday, i hope i can published a book with more pages about Indonesian Mythical Creature.

The Cover

I like red, and i think red colour is pretty outstanding colour and people will easily notice this colour from far.
In first edition (right), i used Hanacaraka, you can read it as "Dongeng", Indonesian word that have same meaning as Myth. But to be truth i don't ask person who fluent to Hanacaraka to do beta of my writing since i only used digital font in photoshop.
So to avoid a confusion if someday my postcard book reached people who understand Hanacaraka better, i changed Hanacaraka letter to "Postcard book" (left).

Left is index page, you can see the content of this postcard book, there will be 7 creatures included in this book.

As you can see, left side is the back cover of the postcard, its include information of each creature beside postcard design. Right side is other front cover, its not the front cover of left picture (left side has information about Singa, while right picture show Nyi Roro Kidul art).

And the last, bonus section.
Always included a gift for buyer, in first printing that i sold at Singapore, i included mini pin that have fish bone printed on it.
I planned to do different thing for second print, so i made a bookmark. Its also have fish's bone shape like the pin :)


Why fish? its my trademark now :D

Pandawa

I remember that this is my first project that involved Wayang characters. Its shame i know but i really never know well any wayang characters or their background story, yes i know Arjuna, yes i know Gatotkaca, yes i know Semar, Petruk and Gareng (the last two names i know from Petruk-Gareng Indonesia comic, an adult comic done by Tatang S), but i don't know who their father? who their mother? etc so i really glad taken this project that made me in love with Wayang stories and their characters.

I choosed Pandawa because they are pretty popular and its not too hard to search in-depth encyclopedia about them in internet. I know people will gave me that 'look' because i took popular subject, but i don't care since its really ironic for such popular figures i didn't know anything about them.


I made this on Desain Komikasi Visual Subject, where i choose some subject and put them to many media.
I choose to made tote bag, t-shirt, bookmarks, calendar, cellphone voucher, postcards, pins/buttons, file holder, and custome brochure.

If you opened the brochure, you can find profile of each Pandawa's characters. I kinda like this design though its a bit hard to opening it.

Highlight on Poscards set

Each postcards contains Pandawa's characters that explain the meaning of their simbolic personalities such as:

Yudhistira: SUSETYO Seriously leading the others four.
Bima : SANTOSA Strongly and determinedly protecting Pandawa.
Arjuna : BENER who was alert to keep the truth
Nakula : PINTER clever and skillful. No goal could be reached without a skill.
Sadewa : SUSILA & TATAKRAMA accomplished everything with the principle at high morality.

And i forgot to mention about the calendar. Its mini calendar consist 4 monthly means only have 3 pictures in it, each picture have 4 months in it.
Every pictures i named "Sangkan, Paraning, Dumadi"
What is Sangkan Paraning Dumadi? There many ways to explain this but shorty its about birth of human, the meaning of their life and existence towards death or nothingness and complete peacefullness.
Its kinda difficult subject anyway hahahaha, but i think its a bit like Buddhism? complete the circle of life and reach nirvana.

Aaaanyway, i got many new experience and study because of this, i hope someday i got another project about Wayang again :)
